When the first Exposure Photography Festival appeared on Calgary’s arts calendar in the mid-2000s, it arrived quietly, but with ambition. At the time, photography was still struggling to gain recognition as a fine art in Alberta. Painting and sculpture dominated gallery walls, while photography was often treated as either commercial or documentary. This festival would help change that perception.

The Camera Store Staff Exhibition brings together the photographic voices of The Camera Store staff who live and breathe photography every day. This exhibition showcases a diverse range of work, reflecting the varied perspectives, styles, and stories. From intimate personal projects to moments discovered in everyday life, each photograph reveals how technical knowledge and creative curiosity intersect when the camera is a tool for expression.

In celebration of 30 years within Calgary’s photography community, The Camera Store is proud to present a special group exhibition, Then & Now 30 Years of Calgary Photography. This milestone exhibition highlights the talent, perspectives, and creative evolution of Calgary’s photographic scene, seen through the lenses of a selection of photographers who have helped shape and support it over the past three decades.

Brian Henson was a highly regarded fine art photographer based in Calgary, known for his dedication to traditional photographic processes and his striking hand-printed black-and-white work. He was also a longtime friend of The Camera Store and a valued presence within Calgary’s photographic community. Brian passed away in 2022, leaving behind a meaningful and enduring legacy of meticulously crafted, hand-printed and framed photographs that reflect both his artistic vision and his commitment to the medium. The Brian Henson Memorial Exhibition will be on display at cSPACE during the 2026 Exposure Photography Festival.  

Julian Ferreira is known in the photographic community for being a passionate advocate of the philosophy “always have a camera with you”. Guided by this belief, he continually observes and photographs the world around him, creating images as he moves through his Southern Alberta prairie home. Working primarily as a fine art black-and-white photographer and co-owner of The Camera Store, Ferreira’s exhibition, My life through the lens, presents a selection of his most recent work. 

Right away, you can feel it. The air in Costa Rica’s rainforest is thick, warm, and absolutely alive. In Todd Korol's newest YouTube video, he hikes through Mystico Hanging Bridges Park near La Fortuna, Costa Rica, straight into the heart of the jungle. Where trees are covered in moss, insects buzz, birds call, leaves rustle, and somewhere off in the distance, howler monkeys echo through the trees as the Arenal Volcano emerges from the clouds. Todd captures what it’s like to slow down and photograph a place that never sits still, a reminder that some of the best images come from paying attention to the small details.
