The wait is finally over! Sony has released the long-awaited addition to its acclaimed Alpha 7S full-frame mirrorless camera series, the Sony Alpha 7S III! A dream for videographers, this camera comes with a bunch of impressive video recording capabilities including 4K 120p, a new heat-dissipating mechanism, a new autofocus system, and so much more. The A7S III was beautifully designed for creatives and is carving a special space for itself in the camera world! Now, let’s see how it measures up when put to the test by TCSTV.
Since the Sony A7S III is geared primarily towards video, what better way to see how it performs than to see a video shot on it! Below are some key features about the A7S III, to go along with TCSTV’s latest review where Dave, Evelyn and even TCSTV’s videographer, Brendan, take this new camera for a spin!
The A7S III has been completely redesigned to give both videographers and photographers an exceptional experience. Featuring a newly developed BIONZ XR™ image processing engine with eight times more processing power and a brand new 12.1-megapixel (approx., effective) back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS image sensor. This camera can shoot both impressive stills as well as impressive video recording in 4K 120 and 10-bit 4:2:2 colour depth. Additionally, for the first time in an Alpha series, it can shoot 4K 60p 16-bit RAW video HDMI output!
It has a Fast Hybrid AF system with 759 point phase-detection AF sensors covering 92% of the image sensor. Along with enhanced Real-time Eye AF for movie recording and still image recording, this camera has excellent tracking capabilities.
With an ultra-high sensitivity with ISO range expandable from 40 – 409,600 and improved image quality by approximately 1 stop noise reduction in the middle and high sensitivity ranges, it gives users more ISO flexibility and overall better image quality.
The A7S III boasts a completely redesigned menu system with a touch screen interface and touch operation. Alongside that, it has 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization and Active Mode, the world’s brightest and largest new 0.64-type 9.44 million-dot (approx.) OLED electronic viewfinder and Dual CFexpress Type A card slots!
In addition, with a new heat-dissipating mechanism and dual-slot relay recording, it can shoot over one hour of 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 movie shooting! It can also shoot high-speed continuous stills at up to 10fps for more than 1,000 consecutive uncompressed RAW images with full AF / AE tracking!
