From shooting astrophotography to architecture to skateboarders at The Compound YYC, this Sony 12-24mm F2.8 GM got put to the test!
Sony’s new 12-24mm F2.8 GM is an Ultra-wide Zoom lens for Sony E mount and apart of Sony’s flagship G Master series. With an F2.8 range from 12mm to 200mm, this lens is perfect for Astro, landscape, architecture and more! It is beautifully designed with three precise XA (extreme aspherical) elements, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements plus two Super ED glass elements. All of this combined allows for outstanding corner-to-corner image quality throughout the entire zoom range while effectively suppress astigmatism, coma and field curvature, and minimizing colour fringing.
The Sony 12-24mm F2.8 GM is also super fast! Designed to keep up with the speed of current and future cameras, it employs four original high-speed, high-thrust XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors. With two XD Linear Motors for each of the lens’s focus groups, and new control algorithms maximize the response of the system, there is flawless synchronization allowing for fast and precise autofocus. The FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM is also extremely quiet with minimal vibration and lower power consumption.
