What’s In My Bag: A Single Camera & Lens Kit For Vibrant Macro Photography
Kristīne Zāle (@macro.viewpoint) is passionate about capturing nature's vibrant, dreamy details through macro and flower photography. “My love for photography started over 10 years ago, inspired by my dad, and truly took off when I discovered macro photography” she says. “I enjoy working with a shallow depth of field to highlight the beauty in the often-overlooked details of nature." For nearly three years, Zāle has been shooting with Sony Alpha gear, including the legendary Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G lens. "It's perfect for my close-up nature work, and I regularly share my photography, tips and tutorials on Instagram.” We caught up with Zāle to learn more about her single camera and lens macro kit – keep reading as she shares what’s in her bag.
Portrait Photography - Getting The Shot
As a Vancouver portrait and fine art photographer I feel my job is to connect with people, capture authentic moments and tell stories through my images.
My style is punchy with a flair for the cinematic and I use strobes and flashes to get the drama in my pictures. Natural light can be some of the most beautiful, but it is more often than not coming from the wrong direction, it can be high contrast with harsh shadows, or it could be overcast and dull. The artificial light also gives adds more pop to colours and freezes motion better for sharper shots.

Finding Inspiration Among Landscapes
For as long as I can remember, the most at peace and inspired I feel is when I’m surrounded by the mountains, forests or the ocean. When I lose myself in these vast natural landscapes, it actually feels more like coming home to myself.
17 years ago, when I acquired my first camera of my very own, I took it with me into the forest and mountains daily, documenting the natural world while simultaneously feeling my mind slowing down, entering that state of inner stillness... also filled with curiosity and inspiration.
