Jordan Griffith is a landscape and wildlife photographer based out of Tempe, Arizona. He's spent hours upon hours at the Lower Salt River and Gilbert Riparian Preserve in Arizona with his Sony Alpha 7 III. “My Sony Alpha camera is one of my prized possessions,” he says. “The places this camera has taken me are places I never imagined I’d go in such little time. Magnus Winbjörk (@winbjorkphoto) is wildlife and nature photographer based in the northern part of Sweden, in Swedish Lapland. “My great passion is capturing all the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer in photographs,” he shares. “I am also deeply committed to achieving technically perfect shots, always striving for the highest possible image quality in every situation, which is why I place very high demands on my equipment, as I constantly push it to the limit." Sony took a different tack than most competing telephoto zooms when they released the FE 200-600mm F5-6.3 G OSS in 2019. They opted for an internally zooming lens, and, while that meant that the lens was larger than externally zooming lenses like the Tamron 150-500mm or the Sigma 150-600mm, it also made for a lens that handled better in the field. The internally zooming design allows for near instant zooms, more consistent balance, and better handling. What’s more, that lens had great autofocus, great image quality, and was generally a lot of fun to use. Sony has now expanded on that formula with their newest lens – the Sony FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS – which shifts the zoom range 200mm further, and, in the process, creates a whole new class of super telephoto zooms. 600mm had been the previous limit for a lens like this, so getting up to 800mm opens up all kinds of new horizons…and the fact that it can be used with teleconverters allows for some pretty wild amounts of reach. Canon has announced new firmware updates for the EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1. Firmware version 1.0.3 for the EOS R5 Mark II and Firmware version 1.0.2 for the EOS R1 both optimize the timing of the camera's display of its internal camera temperature warning indicator and fix an issue that may interfere with the camera’s ability to focus properly when using AF (autofocus) in certain zoom ranges.
