Panasonic has excitedly announced their latest addition to the Full Frame L-Mount family! Time to welcome the new large-aperture wide fixed focal length lens, the Lumix S 35mm F1.8! This new lens is the fourth Lumix S series with an F1.8 fixed focal length. It features a common size and position of control parts along with a similar center of gravity, making it easy to exchange lenses quickly with minimum balance adjustments. Compact and lightweight, with Lumix’s excellent S Series standard, the Lumix S 35mm F1.8 is versatile from landscapes to portraits, videos to snapshots!
The Lumix S 35mm F1.8 is made of eleven lens elements in nine groups, including three aspherical lenses and three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses. The ED lenses effectively suppress chromatic aberration, and the three aspherical lenses allow for both high-quality performance and beautiful bokeh. It has a filter diameter of 67 mm, with a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm and a minimum focusing distance of 0.24m, making the Lumix S 35mm F1.8 great for a wide variety of shooting situations.
The Lumix S 35mm F1.8 is capable of both smooth and silent operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system with the sensor drive at max. 240 fps. For the non-linear setting, focus is shifted by a variable amount according to the rotation speed of the focus ring while focus is shifted with a designated amount according to the rotational quantum of the focus ring for the linear setting. The sensitivity can be selected, by 30-degree increments from 90 to 360 degrees, to enable intended focus operation.
When it comes to video, the Lumix S 35mm F1.8 is also a perfect option. It features a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, a fatal problem of all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography. It also has a micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change, so that excellent, professional-quality video can be created.
Excellent mobility is key for the Lumix S 35mm F1.8, which is compact and lightweight, weighing approximately 295g. It is also has a super rugged dust/splash-resistant design that can withstand harsh conditions even at -10 Celcius.
