The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is an incredibly fast and bright zoom lens perfect for professionals and advanced amateurs alike. Nature and sports photographers will love the built in optical image stabilization which provides up to 4 stops of correction at all focal lengths. Being an L-Series lens, it is also dust- and moisture-resistant, and makes use of fluorite elements, aspherical elements and UD optical glass elements to produce extraordinarily sharp and clear images.
Technical Details
The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM features one fluorite and five UD elements for increased optical quality and reduced chromatic aberration. It has a minimum focusing distance of 1.2m/3.9 ft. at all zoom settings, which is useful for photographers in smaller spaces trying to get closer to a subject. It features a next-generation Optical Image Stabilizer, providing up to 4 stops of correction at all focal lengths. And as with all L-series lenses, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is dust- and moisture-resistant and designed for use in the challenging environments typical of rigorous professional use.
Ring-type USM (Ultra Sonic Motor)
Ring-type motors are highly efficient and feature a low power consumption to extend the camera battery life. Being ring-shaped, they are ideally suited to the shape of the lens barrel, their focusing speed is very controlled and they are stable across a wide range of temperatures, from -30°c to 60°c. They enable quick and silent auto focus of Canon Lenses.
L-Series Lenses
L-series lenses meet the requirements, and needs of professionals. Canon uses three technologies in its L-series lenses to produce the sharpest, clearest pictures: fluorite elements, aspherical elements and UD optical glass elements. To make sure you can easily identify these luxury lenses, Canon marks them with a red ring around the lens barrel. If it does not have this red ring, it is not part of the L-series lens range.
Built to Last
Optical performance is only half the story. A lens destined for professional use must be able to withstand the rigours of a professional photographer’s working life. This means a rugged build quality that will endure the knocks of everyday use, and weather sealing to protect against every type of adverse conditions. Accordingly, the L-series lenses feature liberal use of rubber sealing at interface areas, such as the lens-to-camera junction, external switches, and around zoom and focus rings to prevent water getting in and destroying the lens’ electronics.
Low Light Limits
Professional photographers are often forced to shoot in less than ideal lighting conditions. Sometimes this can mean in low light or even at night. The L-series offers wider maximum apertures than other lenses.
