Sony is expanding its dedication to genuine video content by rolling out its Camera Authenticity Solution technology to a wider range of cameras. This bold move sets the stage for the first-ever industry solution for verifying camera authenticity in video (C2PA standard-compliant), launching on October 30, 2025.
With the rapid advancement of generative AI, concerns about manipulated and fake visuals gaining traction are becoming increasingly urgent. For news outlets and broadcasters, ensuring accurate and trustworthy reporting has never been more critical. To tackle this issue, Sony has been actively providing authenticity solutions for cameras. This supports the vital work of photojournalists, video journalists, and photographers. Through groundbreaking experiments and partnerships, Sony has successfully verified video content's credibility alongside the Research & Development team at the UK’s public broadcaster, BBC. Additionally, Sony plays a key role in the C2PA (The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity), a group dedicated to crafting open standards for ensuring the authenticity of digital media.
Sony's camera authenticity solution platform offers a system for verifying both photos and videos, ensuring content is being originated from a Sony camera rather than being AI-generated. It can even analyze 3D depth details in video footage, ensuring precision in confirming that videos showcase real, physical subjects. An efficient trim feature allows users to isolate and authenticate specific segments of large video files without losing verification, speeding up the process. To access these features, users need a digital signature license installed on Sony-compatible cameras. To meet this demand, Sony will also start providing these licenses for video creators.
Through Sony’s Ci Media Cloud, a platform for collaborative video production, news outlets and broadcasters will soon be able to see C2PA-compliant digital signature details that certify the authenticity of their media.
