Numerous Leica Firmware Updates

Leica has excitedly announced new firmware updates for a bunch of cameras and lenses. With improvements, troubleshooting, corrections and new features for the Leica SL2 Family, Leica SL3-P, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70 f/2.8ASPH and Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH lenses, the Leica Q3 Family, Leica D-Lux 8 and finally the Leica SOFORT 2. Let's take a closer look at all these firmware updates!

Firmware Version 6.3.0 for Leica SL2 Family (Leica SL2 / Leica SL2-S)

Extended Functionality:

  • The Noctilux-M 35 f/1.2 ASPH. lens is now supported.

Improvements:

  • Leica SL2-S: Improved visibility of focus peaking in magnified view during manual focusing in video mode.
  • An issue has been resolved where, under certain conditions, the battery could drain while the Bluetooth/Remote Wake-up function was enabled, even though the camera was turned off.
  • An issue with vignetting correction when using the Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH. that could lead to overcompensation has been resolved.
  • An issue where manual focus might not be available in video mode with certain L-Mount lenses has been resolved.
  • An issue has been resolved that could cause image artifacts at the bottom edge of DNG files when using Adobe Camera Raw AI Denoise.
  • An issue with the accuracy of the T-stop display in Cine mode with certain L-Mount Cine lenses has been resolved.

Firmware Version 4.2.2 for Leica SL3-P

Troubleshooting:

  • Improved reliability during continuous shooting: A bug has been fixed that could cause an error message ("Write Error") to appear during continuous shooting under certain conditions. As a result, in some cases, not all images in a series were saved.

Firmware Version 1.1.0 for Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70 f/2.8 ASPH and Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH

Troubleshooting:

  • Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70 f/2.8 ASPH.
    • General bug fixes and improved L-Mount compatibility.
  • Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH.
    • Optical image stabilization has been improved for shooting in pan mode.

Version 4.1.1 for Leica Q3 Family (Leica Q3 / Leica Q3 43 / Leica Q3 Monochrom)

Troubleshooting:

  • A bug was fixed that prevented the camera from turning off automatically during wireless charging in certain situations. The camera now turns off automatically as soon as wireless charging is detected.
  • A bug has been fixed that caused the camera to unexpectedly switch to the default user profile in certain situations.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause the connection to fail after a remote wake-up with certain Leica Looks or AF mode settings.

Version 1.9.0 for Leica D-Lux 8

Error Correction:

  • Bug fixes in the firmware.

Version 1.2.1 for Leica SOFORT 2

New Features:

  • Fully compliant with Article 3.3 of the EU Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU).
  • Bluetooth: Encrypted Bluetooth communication. As part of the security update, the device must be paired again with the Leica FOTOS app.

Error Correction:

  • Bug fixes in the firmware.
