For Canadian Nikon Ambassador Monika Deviat, there’s something special about heading out after dark. Night photography offers a combination of quiet, darkness and that undeniable sense of wonder that comes from looking up at the stars. Her go-to gear for chasing the stars? Her Nikon Z8 and Z6 III, paired with the Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S and Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S, because with the right gear, getting out under the stars is easier than ever.
One of Monika's favourite local spots is Canmore, where she can photograph the Milky Way rising over the Three Sisters. For these nighttime adventures, Monika relies on the Nikon Z8 and Z6 III, both well suited to working in the dark. The strong high-ISO performance is a big advantage, while features like Warm Display and Starlight View make composing in near-total darkness much easier. The Z8 even has illuminated buttons, which might sound like a small detail, but when you're standing under a dark sky trying to find the right control, those little things can make a big difference.
With her cameras, Monika relies on her Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S and Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S. The 14-24mm gives her the flexibility of a wide zoom, while the 20mm f/1.8 lets in even more light, perfect for pulling out detail in the Milky Way, Orion and other areas of nebulosity.
