Canon has unveiled the lightest, full-frame EOS camera with In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). It's none other than the new Canon EOS R8 Mark II! This new camera features a 24MP image sensor with full-width oversampled 4K 60p video, intuitive controls, plus a new look that mixes modern ergonomics with a compact, travel-friendly build. Taking a closer look, the new Canon EOS R8 Mark II boasts a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor that provides 2.5x the light-gathering area compared to an APS-C sensor. With standard ISO sensitivity up to 102400, it delivers strong low-light performance, shallow depth of field with pronounced background bokeh, and the wider perspectives that come with a full-frame sensor. The camera body is remarkably compact, measuring at 13.13 cm x 8.99 cm x 7.95 cm (5.17” x 3.54” x 3.13") and weighing about 544.311 grams (1.2 lbs).
The new 5-axis IBIS works with compatible lens stabilization and features Peripheral Coordinated Control to help suppress edge blur when shooting with wide-angle lenses. For fast-moving subjects, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II provides 100% coverage with tracking for people, animals and vehicles, along with Register People Priority. The electronic shutter can fire at up to an impressive 40 fps, while Pre-Continuous Shooting can capture up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed. Continuous shooting performance has also been improved over the original EOS R8.
The R8 Mark II offers uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K 60p and Full HD 180p high-frame-rate recording, with audio support and Slow & Fast Mode. Creative tools include Scene Intelligent Automatic mode with Creative Assist, Creative bracketing, and Advanced A+, plus 14 SCN Modes and 16 colour filters, including new Negative Filmtone and Positive Filmtone options for newcomers to photo and video.
Rounding things out are a new multi-controller, Wi-Fi 6 for faster wireless transfers, USB-C and HDMI connectivity, plus wired and wireless live-streaming capabilities through Canon’s apps. Compact, stabilized and seriously quick, the EOS R8 Mark II brings a lot of full-frame capability into a camera built to go just about anywhere.
