The next generation of Canon is here and boy, oh boy, are we excited! Canon announced the release of the highly anticipated EOS R6 and EOS R5! These two new full-frame mirrorless cameras have their unique spots within Canon’s line up, with the R6 being the midrange and the R5 being the premium model. With some exciting new features and impressive specs, both the R5 and R6 bring something new to the Canon camera world.
Now, to switch things up and to help get everyone excited about TCSTV being back (post-COVID), here is a shorter description of both the EOS R5 and EOS R6, with TCSTV’s latest video for you to watch!
Looking at the internal features of the EOS R5, it boasts an impressive 45MP CMOS sensor and a Digic X processor. This enhances both the detail and speed when shooting both stills and video. It is also the first Canon EOS camera in the Mirrorless series camera line to feature a powerful DIGIC X Image Processor. All of this helps it to capture 8K RAW video at up to 30p, 10-bit 4:2:2: 4K at up to 120p, and full-resolution images at up to 20fps with the electronic shutter or 12fps with the mechanical shutter.
With a highly responsive Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system that features an incredible 1,053 Automatic AF zones, they can be designated as auto-focus focal points when Face and Tracking priority AF is selected. This ensures higher-precision Eye Detection AF or allows for you to focus on the desired AF point. The EOS R5 also introduces a new standard of head and eye detection. Even in situations where a camera may struggle to detect a subject, the EOS R5 camera can locate and a person’s head or eye when people detection is set, allowing ease and accuracy when capturing videos or still images, or while in Live View mode.
For the first time in a Canon Mirrorless camera, animal detection is now possible. With the use of deep learning technology, the R5 can effectively track the whole body, face, or eye of cats, dogs, or birds for speed and precision, regardless of the animal’s size, posture, or facial orientation.
The EOS R5 also brings 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) to a Canon camera for the very first time, with up to 8 stops of shake correction when paired with a lens with in-lens stabilization. It also has a 5.76M-dot OLED EVF, 2.1M-dot fully-articulating LCD among other features. To learn more about the Canon EOS R5, watch our TCSTV video below!
The EOS R6 is a full-frame mirrorless camera is designed to meet the demands of both photographers and video content creators who want a strong and versatile camera to keep up with their active lives. With a 20.1MP CMOS sensor and the same Digic X processor found in the EOS R5, the R6 can shoot 10-bit 4:2:2 4K video up to 60p and 1080/120p slow motion. It can also shoot full-resolution stills at 20fps using the electronic shutter or 12fps using the mechanical shutter.
It shares a lot of the same technical features as the R5 such as the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and DIGIC X Image Processor. It also shares the same 5-axis IBIS, Head and Eye and Animal Detection.
Although the EOS R6 is overall more stripped down than the R5, it still features many important traits. With dual card slots (both UHS-II SD), a mic port, a headphone jack, a micro HDMI port, and built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and more, it helps make this an amazing overall camera.
