High frame rates open up striking slow-motion possibilities. The FX5 records up to 5K at 120fps and 4K at 240fps, giving creators the power to capture fast-paced action with impressive detail and clarity—ideal for everything from cinematic storytelling to sharp sports and documentary footage.
Precise, reliable AF and tracking with AI-based subject recognition
With built-in AI processing, the BIONZ XR2 engine accurately recognizes human, animal and bird eyes (Real-time Eye AF). Fast Hybrid AF uses up to 759 points to ensure accurate focus and tracking that keeps up with quick-moving subjects, even in dark scenes and when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
5-axis stabilization for steadier handheld shooting
A precision stabilization unit and gyro sensors combine to provide optical 5-axis in-body stabilization. An enhanced stabilization unit expands the roll-direction compensation range by up to 2x, effectively reducing handheld roll shake. The result is a camera that’s ideal for handheld shooting. Dynamic active Mode adds extra electronic support, and stabilization data can also be used in post-production.

BIG6 (HOME) screen for faster on-set control
Inherited directly from Sony’s high-end CineAlta cameras, the BIG6 (HOME) screen displays six essential settings together: frame rate, EI/ISO/Gain, shutter, iris, LUT and white balance. Touch operation, the multi-function dial and Fixed/Variable frame-rate control help you work quickly and efficiently.
Monitoring support for precise shooting
Exposure and focus tools, including Waveform Monitor, Histogram, False Colour and Focus Map, support faster judgments on set. They help you manage highlights, shadows, skin tones and critical focus with confidence.
Dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots for flexible media workflows
Dual CFexpress Type A slots support relay, simultaneous and separated recording, and they also accept SDXC (UHS-II/UHS-I) cards. Main and proxy files can be recorded to different slots.

The HDMI Type A output port supports external monitoring, while dual USB Type-C® ports support timecode transfer, data transfer and power delivery. You can also split shooting information and picture output to match the way you monitor on set.

Planned post-launch support
Updates are planned to add support for HFR shooting up to 240fps in X-OCN, XAVC S‑I recording in a 3:2 aspect ratio with full-sensor readout, an optimized user interface for vertical shooting, and a frame grab function.
