Fujifilm has excitedly announced not one but two new cameras! The X-E4 digital camera, a new mirrorless rangefinder-style camera, and the GFX100S digital camera, the fourth large-format mirrorless camera in Fujifilm’s GFX System! In a quick, hands-on preview, TCSTV takes a look at both of these new cameras but let’s take a look at the specs first!
The X-E4 is the Fujifilm X Series’ lightest and smallest camera body! Weighing in at 364 grams and measuring 121.3mm tall, 72.9mm wide, and 32.7mm deep (4.77in x 2.87in x 1.28in) it’s the most compact interchangeable-lens X Series camera.
Although small, it still features Fujifilm’s state-of-the-art 26.1MP X-Trans™ CMOS 4 sensor and the high-speed image processing engine X-Processor 4., which provides incredibly fast autofocus. The X-E4 uses phase-detection autofocus points across almost 100% of the sensor to acquire focus in as fast as 0.02 seconds. This allows the users to track moving subjects with an advanced AF-tracking algorithm, ensuring that images can be captured when the focus is optimal.
To maintain its slim and sleek design, a rear tilting LCD screen has also been carefully designed to ensure the body remains as thin and portable as possible. This LCD screen can be flipped upward and forward-facing up to 180 degrees. This screen allows the X-E4 to accommodate a wide variety of compositions, from high to low angle, as well as selfies and vlog-style videos.
The X-E4 oversamples 6K footage to record 4K/30P 4:2:0 8-bit video to internal media, or 4K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video via its HDMI port. It also delivers high-speed, full-HD video at 240fps, which can be used to replay fast-moving subjects up to 10x slower compared to footage recorded at 24fps.
A Fujifilm staple, the X-E4 has a total of 18 film simulations. This includes Velvia, which is characterized by highly saturated colours and crisp gradation, and ETERNA Bleach Bypass, which reproduces a traditional dark-room processing technique to create unique images with low saturation and high contrast.

The GFX100S is the fourth large-format mirrorless camera in Fujifilm’s GFX System. Measuring in at 15cm tall, 10.4cm wide and 8.7cm deep (5.9in x 4.09in x 3.4in) and weighing 900 grams (just under 2 pounds), the GFX100s has a compact body that is comparable in size to many full-frame cameras. Designed with the speed of a compact mirrorless camera, the GFX100S is powered by Fujifilm’s high-performance quad-core X-Processor 4 CPU. It also utilizes its 102MP, back-illuminated large format CMOS sensor to deliver images with stunning quality. On-sensor phase detection pixels cover almost 100% of the GFX100S’ imaging sensor. It can acquire focus in as little as 0.16 seconds, even in luminance levels as low as -5.5EV making it versatile, accurate, and incredibly fast. The GFX100S’ X-Processor 4 is easily able to make use of the updated focus tracking algorithm. This algorithm keeps subjects in focus when using the Tracking AF and Face/Eye AF functions.
With a newly designed IBIS system, the GFX100S is 20% smaller and 10% lighter than the GFX100. Despite this size reduction, the five-axis system provides 6-stops of CIPA-rated image stabilization, a 0.5-stop improvement over GFX100. This dramatically expands the capability of photographers to confidently create handheld images.
Constructed with a magnesium alloy casing that is purposely 1mm denser around the lens mount as compared to GFX100, the GFX100S provides added support for larger G Mount lenses. It still features controls that will be familiar to the GFX System, including a PASM dial, with six programmable custom options. It also features a 3.2 inch LCD monitor on the rear and a 1.8 inch sub LC monitor on its top plate, which can be customized to show key EXIF settings. The LCD screen is also touch-capable, with a 2.36-million-dot monitor that has 100% coverage and can be tilted in three directions (90° up, 45° down, and 60° right).
The GFX100S is capable of recording incredibly cinematic 4K/30p movies that feature incredible shallow depth-of-field, impressive high-ISO performance, wide tonal gradation, and overall unmatched image quality. Footage can be recorded at bit rates of up to 400Mbps in 10-bit 4:2:0 F-log internally saved to an SD card, or output to an external recording device via the camera’s HDMI port in either10-bit 4:2:2 F-Log or 12-bit RAW.
With a choice of 19 exclusive Fujifilm Film Simulation modes, the GFX100S can easily achieve fantastic colour straight out of the camera. This includes a new Film Simulation mode, Nostalgic Neg. The new Nostalgic Neg is reminiscent of American New Color Photography, which emerged in the 1970s. It enables creatives to explore the boundaries of photographic creativity through the deliberate use of colour.
