Sony is widening their G Lens lineup in a seriously fun way with the new Sony FE 8-14mm f3.5 Fisheye G! This is Sony’s first fisheye zoom G Lens™ for full-frame Alpha™ E-mount cameras, and it's giving everything we love about the unique look of a fisheye. With a circular fisheye at 8mm to a diagonal fisheye at 14mm, plus a constant f/3.5 aperture throughout the zoom range, it provides a 180° angle of view, making it possible to capture huge scenes while getting some seriously exaggerated perspectives. Inside the new Sony FE 8-14mm f3.5 Fisheye G are 13 elements in 16 groups, including ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements to help maintain high resolution and control chromatic aberration across the frame. The lens can focus as close as 0.15m (0.5 ft) and offers up to 0.22x magnification at 14mm, opening up plenty of opportunities for getting extremely close to your subject while exaggerating the surrounding environment. As for size, it measures approximately 63.1mm in diameter and 82.8mm long, while weighing just 314g. An internal zoom mechanism also helps keep the centre of gravity consistent as you zoom, which should make it a particularly interesting option for handheld video, gimbals and other rig-based setups.
The lens features fast, precise autofocus driven by a linear motor, Linear Response manual focus, and effective focus-breathing suppression for video. There are independent focus, zoom and iris rings, along with a focus-mode switch, zoom-lock switch and an aperture click switch for smoother video operation. The FE 8-14mm f3.5 Fisheye G is also dust- and moisture-resistant, features a fluorine coating on the front element, and includes a rear filter holder for sheet filters. There’s even support for spatial content creation when using two sets of the VENICE Extension System Mini and this lens, positioning the optical axes approximately 64mm apart for VR and other spatial applications, with a natural sense of depth and distance.
