Great video deserves great audio, and Sony is making it easier than ever to capture both. The new Sony ECM-W5 Wireless Microphone System is built for creators who want reliable, high-quality sound without adding setup complexity. With impressive wireless range, 32-bit float recording, and built-in backup storage, this is a wireless audio solution designed to keep up with everything from run-and-gun video to more involved multi-camera productions.
The new Sony ECM-W5 Wireless Microphone System includes two transmitters and one receiver, offering a line-of-sight wireless range of up to 500 metres. Designed to help minimize audio dropouts in congested radio-frequency environments, the ECM-W5 delivers flexibility and reliability across a wide range of shooting scenarios. One of the biggest highlights is its 32-bit float audio recording. Through Sony’s Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, compatible cameras can receive digital audio directly and record it alongside video in a single file. Each transmitter also features up to 64GB of built-in memory for backup audio recording, providing extra peace of mind when capturing important moments.
The ECM-W5 adds even more flexibility with cable-free monitoring and microphone functions when paired with compatible Sony wireless headphones. Its MI Shoe connection also supports power delivery and linked power control on compatible cameras, helping streamline the workflow from recording to editing. For creators working beyond a camera setup, the included USB Type-C adapter allows connection to compatible smartphones and PCs.
Want a more advanced audio setup? Sony will also offer the transmitter and receiver separately, allowing for configurations such as four-channel recording and multi-camera productions. With impressive wireless range, onboard backup recording, and seamless integration with compatible Sony cameras, the Sony ECM-W5 is a versatile new option for creators looking to spend less time worrying about audio and more time getting the shot.
