New Sigma FP2: Small Body, Serious Performance

Small camera, serious capabilities. Sigma is taking its compact full-frame concept to the next level with the new Sigma FP2! Combining a 24.5MP partially stacked CMOS sensor, advanced autofocus, and professional cinema features in an incredibly compact body, the Sigma FP2 builds on the original fp series, bringing meaningful upgrades for photographers and filmmakers who want maximum performance without being weighed down by a massive camera rig. With dedicated STILL and CINE modes, this camera is designed to move seamlessly from still photography to professional video production.

At the heart of the new Sigma FP2 is a 24.5MP full-frame partially stacked CMOS sensor, delivering impressive detail, rich colour, and excellent dynamic range. The faster sensor readout also helps reduce rolling shutter distortion while supporting high-speed shooting and high-frame-rate video recording. Autofocus gets a major upgrade, too, with improved speed, accuracy, and low-light performance. The FP2's subject detection now recognizes people, animals, and birds, while continuous shooting reaches approximately 20fps for bursts of up to 200 frames.

Sigma has also added a tilting LCD that moves 90° upward and 45° downward, making low-angle and overhead compositions easier to frame. Battery life improves by approximately 30% over the original FP, delivering up to 370 still images, and the camera includes 70GB of built-in storage alongside its SD card slot. For photographers who want to put their own creative spin on every image, 13 colour modes are accessible through a dedicated Color button, making it easy to shape the look and feel of your photos in-camera.

Here's where things get especially interesting for videographers and hybrid creatives. There is now a dedicated switch that instantly transitions the FP2 between STILL and CINE modes, each with its own interface, controls, and workflow. With 6K Open Gate recording, you can capture the full sensor area for greater flexibility when cropping footage into different aspect ratios. The FP2 also offers up to 14.1 stops of dynamic range, 32-bit float audio recording, ProRes RAW support, and Leica L-Log for advanced colour grading workflows. For filmmakers, the Director's Viewfinder function simulates the shooting areas of a range of cinema cameras, including the ARRI ALEXA 35, and Sony VENICE 2 and BURANO. Anamorphic de-squeeze display is also supported, making the FP2 a versatile option for productions ranging from solo video projects and documentaries to high-end film and television work.
