Sigma is adding to its Art lineup with the new Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG Art, the perfect combination of high-end optical performance and impressive portability in one of the most popular focal lengths for portrait photography. Designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, the new 85mm F1.2 DG Art delivers Sigma’s brightest-ever F1.2 aperture while weighing in at just 905g in L-Mount, the smallest and lightest in its class for full-frame mirrorless cameras. With an 85mm focal length and F1.2 aperture, it delivers extremely shallow depth of field, beautiful bokeh and strong subject separation for gorgeous portrait photography.
The new Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG Art is designed to deliver reliably high resolving power from its maximum aperture, making the most of the distinctive rendering that F1.2 provides. The optical construction includes 17 elements in 12 groups, including two SLD glass elements and three aspherical elements. Glass with high anomalous dispersion suppresses axial chromatic aberration, while the aspherical elements help correct spherical aberration and sagittal coma flare. The result is designed to capture fine details in a subject’s expression and texture, bringing the high image quality of the lens to both photography and video.
The combination of an 85mm focal length and F1.2 aperture produces an extremely shallow depth of field and rich, beautiful bokeh. Sigma has equipped the lens with a 13-blade rounded diaphragm, helping maintain a near-circular shape in out-of-focus highlights even when the aperture is stopped down. The optical design also works to suppress colour bleeding and double-line bokeh, helping subjects stand out with a strong sense of three-dimensionality and immersion. Flare and ghosting have also been carefully addressed through advanced simulation technology, with the lens designed to provide strong backlight resistance for clear, sharp images under challenging lighting conditions.
Perhaps one of the most notable features of the new 85mm F1.2 is its portability. Sigma has achieved a weight of just 905g in L-Mount, making the lens the smallest and lightest autofocus 85mm F1.2 interchangeable lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, according to Sigma as of September 2026. This was achieved through an optimized arrangement of aspherical elements within the focus groups, reducing the number of lens elements required in the focus unit while still incorporating a complex floating mechanism. The result is a compact design intended to improve mobility during long shoots and situations where agility is important.
The Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG Art features dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus, providing fast and quiet operation with precise tracking performance for both stills and video. With the extremely shallow depth of field available at F1.2 and an 84 cm minimum focusing distance, accurate autofocus is particularly important, and the dual HLA system is designed to maintain smooth and precise focusing even in demanding situations. For video creators, Sigma has also optimized the focus-group arrangement and aspherical shapes to suppress focus breathing significantly. This minimizes changes in angle of view during focus shifts, creating more natural-looking focus transitions.
The lens includes two AFL buttons, an aperture ring, an aperture-ring lock switch and a click switch that allows users to turn aperture clicks on or off. The AFL buttons can also be assigned to a range of functions through the camera menu on supported cameras.
Construction uses high-precision parts made from lightweight, high-strength materials including Sigma’s TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), providing the rigidity and durability expected from the Art line without compromising portability. The lens also features a dust- and splash-resistant structure and a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element, helping it withstand demanding outdoor shooting conditions.
