Canadians aged 18 to 24, Canon Canada’s first-ever inaugural young creators incubator program, Futures by Canon Creator Lab, is ready for you! Futures is an instructional and mentorship program designed to not only accelerate your visual storytelling and creative skills but to offer you insights into the business of being a creative! Twenty lucky participants will get to spend a year learning from a diverse panel of experts including, sports photographer and videographer Atiba Jefferson, portraiture photographer and YouTuber Irene Rudnyk, and filmmaker and photographer Justin Wu! The deadline to apply is August, 16th 2021, so you still have time to take the first step in launching your creative career!
Futures is a 12-month mentorship journey where participants will receive technical instruction, practical insights and exclusive coaching from the Canon Creator Lab network of professionals. The program is designed to equip passionate and emerging storytellers with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the craft, broaden their creative spectrum, and develop their skills. By learning from mentors who have experienced ups and downs throughout their professional careers, participants will learn how to prevent similar mistakes in their future careers.
The program will ensure participants have a comprehensive understanding of their gear and teach practical skills such as working with lighting and producing a shoot. Participants will also learn business-related skills such as branding, budgeting and dealing with rejection and self-doubt. Participants will also gain real-world experience by shooting against a brief from Eddie Bauer featuring brand gear and accessories.
Futures will be a hybrid program with a series of virtual workshops and an exclusive, three-day, all-expenses-paid, in-person retreat to one of the most beautiful places in the world, Lake Louise in Banff, Alberta, co-hosted with one of Canon Canada’s partners, Socality. Canon Canada will also support each creator with their very own special kit of Canon gear, including the versatile EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera and lenses.
To be considered for the program, Canadian applicants aged 18-24, must complete a four-part submission process, including:
- A brief written description of themselves and their story;
- A 30-second video-based elevator pitch;
- An online Q&A around their brand and ambitions; and
- A link to their portfolio and/or created content.
The deadline to apply is Aug. 16th, 2021. Successful applicants will be announced on Sept. 2, 2021.
