Get Ready For The Sony Alpha 7R VI

The wait is finally over! After teasing if we were "ready for the next R", Sony has excitedly announced the sixth generation of its celebrated Alpha 7R series, the new Sony Alpha 7R VI! Building on the incredible legacy of the Sony R-Series, this new full-frame mirrorless camera combines an approximately 66.8 effective megapixel back-illuminated, fully-stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor with the new BIONZ XR2™ engine, to bring us exceptional resolution, true-to-life colour, and reliable performance. Quality you can trust in any situation, from people in motion to wildlife to expansive landscapes, could this be Sony's best camera yet?

The Sony Alpha 7R VI delivers unparalleled high-resolution shooting with its impressive 66.8 MP (approximate, effective) full-frame, fully-stacked Exmor RS sensor, providing up to 16 stops of dynamic range and minimizing noise in mid-sensitivity ranges. Its precise 5-axis optical image stabilization provides up to 8.5 stops of stabilization at the center and 7.0 stops at the edges, ensuring sharp, blur-free images even in challenging conditions. The camera’s auto white balance is enhanced by a visible light and infrared (IR) sensor paired with deep-learning illumination estimation technology, producing accurate and natural colours in various lighting environments, including shaded or indoor scenes.

The Alpha 7R VI's BIONZ XR2 engine integrates a cutting-edge AI processing unit that offers a sensor readout approximately 5.6 times faster than its predecessor. This enables blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 fps, alongside real-time tracking that delivers up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second with AF/AE tracking. Real-time Recognition AF+ uses skeletal-based human pose estimation and tracking to maintain precise focus on dynamic, fast-moving subjects such as athletes, ensuring exceptional performance across demanding scenarios.

Designed to meet professional standards, the Alpha 7R VI features a new high-capacity NP-SA100 battery (2670 mAh) that supports extended shooting sessions, with up to 710 still images via the LCD monitor or 600 via the viewfinder. It's approximately 9.44M dot OLED viewfinder, offering a DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut and 10-bit HDR, achieves brightness three times greater than conventional models for excellent visibility in bright conditions. Enhanced heat management allows uninterrupted 8K recording for up to 120 minutes, while its magnesium alloy body ensures durability and lightweight handling. Dual USB Type-C ports for simultaneous charging and data transfer, a 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor for flexible shooting angles, and illuminated rear buttons further enhance its functionality for professionals working in various environments.

The Alpha 7R VI stands out with its exceptional video capabilities, featuring 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling and full-frame 4K recording at 60p and 120p without cropping. The introduction of Dual Gain Shooting, a first in the Alpha series, optimizes sensor performance for reduced noise and smoother gradations in shadow areas. A redesigned stabilization system expands roll-direction compensation, while Dynamic Active Mode provides stable handheld footage. Additionally, the camera supports 32-bit float audio internal recording when paired with the XLR-A4 XLR adapter, removing the need for post-recording audio adjustments and ensuring pristine audio quality for professional productions.
