Fujifilm’s latest X Series, X-T mirrorless digital camera is here to help get you connected with photography! Welcome the exciting and anticipated Fujifilm X-T5! With a new, powerful back-illuminated 40.2MP X-TransTM CMOS 5 HR imaging sensor and high-speed, X-Processor 5 image processing engine, our TCSTV team had to get their hands on the X-T5. With Fujifilm’s incredible shooting experience, Dave and Evelyn both thought the Fujifilm X-T5 was a joy to shoot and might be your new favourite camera!
The new Fujifilm X-T5 combines Fujifilm’s most loved cameras into one awe-inspiring camera! When the Fujifilm X-T3 was originally released, Evelyn fell in love with the entire Fujifilm experience, from the way the camera felt in hand to the sense of creativity and the notion of traditional photography. The new X-T5 lends itself to that and so much more! Redefining itself from its predecessors, the X-T3 and X-T4, the new X-T5 had a great hand-feel with a light and sturdy weight, excellent balance and grip. Evelyn also found the dials quite tactile and the shutter button to be the perfect balance of not too spongy and perfectly responsive with the electric viewfinder. The X-T5 features a 3.69-million-dot EVF viewfinder with 0.8x magnification, which Evelyn thought could have been a higher resolution, but happy to see the joystick on the back for the quick movability of your autofocus points manually.
The real highlight of the Fujifilm X-T5 is its overall shooting experience. Sticking with the same X-T design, Evelyn loves how the camera lens itself to a jack-of-all-trades approach to photography. With the high-resolution 40.2MP sensor, users can achieve tremendous detail for landscape and scenery photos. Users can also shoot fast-paced sports with 15 frames per second in Mechanical Shutter and 20 frames per second in Electronic Shutter.
Dave found the X-T5 autofocus to be very similar to X-H2, which is known for its excellent ability to lock onto subjects. Testing the X-T5 with BMX’ers, Dave was able to thoroughly track the rider’s faces and the different subject’s efficiently, even when they were whipping by quite quickly. Overall, Dave felt very confident with the AF system and the X-T5’s battery, with over 700 shots with no issues. The only problem Dave had with the AF system was when he wanted to switch to vertical shooting. Fujifilm has no plans of releasing a vertical grip, so for shooters like Dave who want a secondary autofocus button, it makes shooting vertically a bit trickier.
The X-T5 utilizes the seven stops of Internal Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) system for stunning Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode. Multi-shot allows users to stitch multiple shots together using Pixel Shift Combiner software, to create a 160-megapixel file size! Dave was impressed by this, and it really flaunts how the X-T5 is geared more toward being a stills camera. To see how the video side of the X-T5 holds up, Dave and Evelyn got Drew to step out from behind the camera to give his thoughts. Although Drew was a little disappointed to see the video capabilities didn’t quite hold up to that of the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S, with no 8K recording, for those who primarily shoot photos and only dabble in video, it’s a great option. The X-T5 can record internally at up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit colour and there is 4K HQ mode, which oversamples 6.2K footage for superior 4K output. There is also both a microphone and headphone jack, so users aren’t missing any key video components.
The last feature that Evelyn quite loves about the X-T5 is the selection of Film Simulations which digitize some of the industry’s most iconic films and puts them right at your fingertips. Although it’s not a feature for everyone, it is only of the few cameras Evelyn actually uses the Film Simulation on because they work so well and create such a stunning effect. She also really enjoys how it adds to the overall experience of the camera.
Overall the Fujifilm X-T5 is compact, and thoughtfully designed, with Fujifilm’s renowned technology and excellent shooting experience.
