Elevate Your Snapshots With The New Ricoh GR IV

Ricoh continues the legacy of the GR-series with the new Ricoh GR IV, a perfect mix of superb image quality, lightning-fast performance, and a lightweight design. It features innovative updates, such as a newly engineered lens, high-tech image sensor, upgraded imaging engine, and improved stabilization. This allows for crisp, detailed images and a smooth, responsive shooting experience, making it an ideal companion for spontaneous photography.

At the heart of the new Ricoh GR IV is a state-of-the-art back-illuminated APS-C-size CMOS image sensor designed to deliver exceptional sensitivity and minimize noise. Powered by the advanced GR ENGINE 7, it delivers exceptional image processing capabilities. With 25.74 effective megapixels, this camera produces sharp, detailed, and richly-toned images. The RICOH-developed accelerator unit further enhances the captured data, ensuring it reaches the imaging processor with an optimized signal-to-noise ratio. With a maximum sensitivity of ISO 204800, the GR IV excels in producing high-quality images, even in extremely low-light settings.

The GR IV comes equipped with a precision-crafted GR 18.3mm F2.8 lens, ensuring remarkable image sharpness with a modern, compact design. Designed to retain the iconic 28mm angle of view (35mm format equivalent) and a bright F2.8 aperture, this lens sets a new standard. Its seven optical elements, divided into five groups, include advanced aspherical glass and a large-diameter final element, along with specialized glass for reducing distortion and colour issues, resulting in crisp, high-resolution images with exceptional sharpness from edge to edge. Furthermore, the GR IV boasts a newly refined lens design and an optimized start-up sequence, reducing start-up time to an impressive 0.6 seconds, the fastest in GR-series history. Switching to Macro mode and storing the lens is now faster than ever, making spontaneous shooting effortless. With a high-speed lens mechanism and rapid data processing from the image sensor, autofocus is faster and more accurate, even in dim lighting. The advanced image-plane phase-matching AF system has been fine-tuned for improved precision and coverage, ensuring exceptional performance in every shot.

Designed for speed and efficiency, the GR IV has been updated with a compact, streamlined body that combines style and practicality, just what you need in a camera built for quick snapshots. Compared to earlier GR-series models, this version is slimmer and more ergonomic, with a thoughtfully designed thumb grip on the back that allows for a firm, comfortable hold during use. Constructed with a lightweight magnesium alloy frame, the GR IV is built to last while being easy to carry and dependable for any shoot. Equipped with a 3.0-inch high-definition LCD monitor offering 1,037,000 dots, the GR IV delivers sharp, vivid visuals. Its innovative air-gap-free design, which uses a special resin layer between the touch-screen and the reinforced glass cover, minimizes light reflection and scattering for clearer outdoor shooting. The Outdoor Monitor Setting enhances visibility, whether you're in bright sunlight or low-light indoor spaces. Plus, the newly added Auto setting automatically fine-tunes the screen’s brightness to suit the lighting in your surroundings.

The layout of buttons and dials has been revamped for better functionality, and the mode adjustment (ADJ) lever has been swapped out for a more user-friendly dial, making operation smoother than ever. Additionally, the GR IV offers an innovative Program Auto Ex function, enabling seamless transitions between exposure modes. With the camera set to Program AE, simply rotate the front e-dial and you can switch to Aperture-Priority AE, or turn the rear e-dial to activate Shutter-Priority AE. Additionally, the Snap Distance-Priority AE (Sn) mode has been introduced, allowing photographers to achieve striking depth-of-field effects. This mode enhances image capture by balancing the subject’s distance in snapshot photography with an impactful depth-of-field, providing even more exposure mode choices for creative flexibility.  Adding to its 12 classic Image Control effects, the GR IV now includes a Cinema mode, perfect for bringing a nostalgic, film-inspired look to photos with a choice of yellow or green tones. This mode goes beyond standard adjustments like Saturation, Hue, Key, Contrast, and Grain Effect by allowing users to fine-tune strength and size for even more creative possibilities. Custom settings can be saved directly to the Image Control menu for quick and easy access to preferred styles.

The GR IV features an enhanced version of the original SR (Shake Reduction) system built into its body, allowing it to counteract camera shake during shutter release with impressive precision. With a significantly improved compensation algorithm, this advanced five-axis system reduces unwanted effects caused by pitch, yaw, and roll during regular shooting, while also addressing shift-related movement in macro photography, offering up to six shutter steps of stabilization.

For even greater ease of use, the GR IV features an advanced dual-communication system that integrates Bluetooth® and wireless LAN, making it simple to connect with mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. Specifically crafted for the RICOH GR series, the new GR WORLD app streamlines multiple functions, such as transferring image files to your phone, using your phone as a remote shutter, and syncing the camera's location data directly to your smart device.
