Mark your calendars, because May 15th, 2020 is the day you can watch the locally created and TCS supported short film, A Walk Down To Water! It was written, directed, edited and produced by Calgary native, Levi Holwell, of Leftside Pictures, alongside an array of other amazing artists. This short focuses on an immigrant employee, who after finding out one of the guests at the motel he works at has passed away, is waiting for the ambulance. Diving into thought-provoking and universal themes, A Walk Down To Water, takes you on an emotional journey through beautifully created cinematography.
To say this film hasn’t already made great waves in the film industry would be a vast understatement. A Walk Down To Water has won numerous awards, including wins for Best Short Form Narrative and Best Editor at the CSIF 2019 Stinger Awards, alongside five nominations. Additionally, it has won matching awards at Calgary and Edmonton’s 2019 international film festivals for best Albertan short and was an official selection for both the Slamdance Film Festival and the Telefilm Canada showcase.
Alongside Levi, this short was executed by a mosaic of both local and immigrant creatives, including Serbian refugee, Boban Stojanovic, who plays the main protagonist. With an overall sense of stillness juxtaposing a dramatic experience, A Walk Down To Water is a thought-provoking film about humanity, leaving you wanting more.
